DUTCH COURSE · LEARN & PRACTISE

Lesson 49 · Reading skills

An adult reads a book at home, with a notebook nearby.

Read for meaning, one short text at a time

You do not need to understand every word immediately. Start by finding out who the text is about and what happens. In this lesson, you will read a short story and find information in a simple notice.

1

Look first

Use the title and picture to predict the topic.

2

Read once

Read to the end. Try to understand the main idea before looking up words.

3

Listen and reread

Follow the text while listening. Look up a few words that block your understanding.

4

Check and repeat

Answer the questions. Read aloud, then write one short sentence about the text.

A Saturday morning

Look at the picture. Where is Nora, and what is she buying? Then read the Dutch text.

Nora buys bread and three apples at an outdoor market.
