Meet my family

Meet my wife, my son, my daughter and my dog. We have lived in the Netherlands for six months. We love it.

We run in the park every day

But we like to do more things ...

1. Jan likes playing football
2. Anna likes playing tennis
3 . Vicky likes dancing
4. Tim likes biking

4. Tim likes biking

More activities

You just heard that I like to play tennis, but I enjoy other activities too, such as swimming, cycling, walking, and running. We now live in Amsterdam, and we don't have a house with a garden, so unfortunately, gardening is something I have to skip.

1. to swim, to walk, to bike, to run
2. to garden, to play chess,  to play table tennis, to drive
3. to read, to sing, to shop

And you, what do you like?

In order to indicate what another person likes, the Dutch sentence is "waar hou jij van". The literal meaning of the words is: what like you of. This seems odd... funny Dutchmen.

In Waar hou jij van?, van comes later in the sentence. You can also say Waarvan hou jij? For a person: Van wie hou jij? The preposition does not always have to be the last word.

1. I like to cook
2. what do you like?
3. I like to eat
4. I like to draw

Using the symbol ++ to indicate the word "also"

We  use the symbol +  to couple words and sentences. For instance, food + drinks (food and drinks).
We use ++ to express the word "also".

also = ++

1. I like to walk
2. I also

Test: can you remember the Dutch sentences?

1. I like to cook
2. What do you like?
3. I like to eat
4. I like to draw
1. I like to walk
2. I also
