Discovering Leiden

Leiden ontdekken

Read the meaning
Last year I visited Leiden for the first time. I started with a walk through the old centre. I saw canals, bridges and narrow streets. Beautiful old houses stood along the water. Now and then I stopped to take a photo.
A highlight was my visit to the Hortus botanicus. It is an old botanical garden in the city centre. I walked past unusual plants and looked inside the greenhouses. I found a peaceful spot right in the city.
Afterwards I visited the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden. That museum is about archaeology. You can see objects from ancient Egypt and Roman times. There is also a collection about the archaeology of the Netherlands. I learned a lot about how people used to live.
At the end of the afternoon I sat on a terrace beside a canal. With a drink in my hand, I looked back on the day. The garden in particular stayed in my memory. Leiden is a city I would like to return to.
